Day 91 - Leap Year Frogs

For the leap year I just had to paint these adorable red eyed tree fogs. When I think of the word Leap the first thing that pops into my head was frogs and these specific frogs are definitely the cutest. I find it amazing how many bright colors fit on such a tiny animal.

I started off with a green polish and then to give it more of a leafy backround look, I sponged a forest green acrylic paint over the nail using a makeup sponge with the pointed edge ripped off for texture. I then painted in the frogs going off some images I pulled up on google. I started bu using the colored paints to block in the the basic shapes, after that I added in the shading and highlights and outlined with the black paint. To finish of the design I added in some leaves to fill up the open spaces

Day 90 - Black Roses and Polka Dots

Today I was in the mood for a cute girly french with some 3D art. I decided to go with the large rose mold I had in my kit. Using black EZ Flow acrylic and some small clear rhinestones I made the flowers, I find the key to using the molds is to apply the 3D art while it is still wet so it forms to the nails without any sticky out parts. There is nothing more frustrating than doing your nails and minuted later find a corner of a flower has broken off.

The french tip was painted before hand using my Instant artist paint in pink pastel with a coat of glitter polish. After the flowers were applied I decided I needed to tie in the black with the french so I added the tiny polka dots. I think these nails turned out pretty cute. I like the soft shimmery colors against the bold black flower

Day 89 - #48 Chevy

After a day of rain delays and months of withdrawal from racing I am super pumped for the start of the nascar season, Just watching the Daytona 500 right now and I must start off by saying I was very bummed to see my favorite driver Jimmie Johnson wrecked just a few minutes into the race, but it did inspire me to do these awesome nails. May they bring him better luck for the rest of the season.

These were done using my instant artist paints (platinum, hot yellow, jet black and crisp white) . I started off with painting the ring finger with the # 48 in the colors matching the car. The rest were just going to be the checkered flag french design but I decided last minute to paint the thumb to match the hood and I am so glad I did, because I love it!!

Day 88 - A Celebration of Film

I worked later tonight than I usually would on a Sunday so as soon as I was off I rushed home to watch my recording of the Academy Awards. During this time I was also frantically painting my nails for my blog post for today. As you can see I did not have to look far for inspiration. I love awards shows so I thought why not do some Oscar nails?

For the base I pressed loose gold glitter into the black polish while it was still slightly wet. I just love how these two colors look together, such a great combo! Next step I painted the film strip flowing through the nails, this was done using my black and white instant artist paints. When painting the Oscar I unfortunately had to use gold glitter because I forgot my flat gold at the salon. I think If I would of had the gold paint I wanted it probably would have turned out better, but with the black and white detail you can still tell what it is so I'm not overly disappointed. I think the Academy Awards were great this year and had a fun time doing the nails

Day 87 - Violets

For todays post I wanted to paint Violets, the flower of February. Even though I have not painted the previous months flowers I decided to do February because I really like violets. I love the color and shape of the flower, great for nail art. Sticking with the theme I decided to use this polish because it is the closest color I had to amethyst (Feb birthstone) and it also went nicely with the flowers.

These flowers are super easy to paint, using a small square brush and purple craft paint I painted the petals, starting at the top and overlapping them working my way down. After that I outlined them and added in the purple and blue shading, once that dried I painted in some black lines coming from the center of the flower and finished it off with a yellow stone. I didn't really like just the floating flower so I added the little swirls, still not sure if it was the best choice but it looks alright.

Day 86 - Alien Encounter

Today I started off with no plan at all, all I knew was that I wanted to use my magnetic polish and instead of painting it the usual way I wanted to use different magnetic patterns overlapping on the nails. The china glaze magnetixs collection has a magnet with three designs on it, I used the star and the diagonal line patterns and used the magnet about 3-4 times per nail, I did this by painting small areas at a time. Once the base was complete the first thing that popped into my head was UFO. The polish has a metallic look to it and the star pattern looked kinda like parts of a spaceship, and to be honest I have just developed a major alien obsession over the last little while (I know I am a major nerd!) My husband and I have started watching Ancient Aliens and cannot get enough of it. Tonight is the new episode so I guess that was on my mind when I was painting these, lol!

I started the nail art by painting the outline of all the shapes with a black striping paint (UFO, alien, moon & trees) after that I colored them in and added details. For the light beam I stippled on the paint using a makeup sponge because I wanted a translucent look to it, after that I painted some vertical lines over it in the blue and silver. To finish the nails I added some small star clusters for extra detail

Day 85 - Peace and Tie Dye

I have really wanted to paint tie dye nails for awhile now, but in my head I always imagined doing it by water marbling the nails. After about an hour of failed attempts, I gave up on marbling. Since I have every color of the rainbow in instant artist paints, I thought why not free hand it? I love when something that starts out as a disaster turns out better than I ever imagined.

This design is actually a lot easier than it looks. First I arranged my paints in a line in the order I wanted the colors. I chose the dark blue to start because is was the darkest color and painted a bunch of lines side by side in a swirl from the center out. You repeat this over and over using every color, slightly overlapping it to slightly blend them together. After the nail was covered I went in with my white striping paint and added in  the odd little flicks in a circular pattern  for where the tshirt would  have been tied. To finish the nails I decided to add in the peace signs for fun, I painted them first in black and then went over in white for a 3d kind of effect.

Day 84 - Dior

These nails are inspired by a Christian Dior dress from the spring 2012 collection. while browsing some fashion websites I came across the dress and thought it was super cute, and it would be cute on nails. I then logged into pinterest and there it was, one of the first pins to pop up. I thought it must be sign.

I have attached a couple pictures of the dress below, where you can see the dress with a stripe of odd shaped boxes in red, silver and golds. I wanted to mimic this design on the nails, I started off by painting in the colored boxes on top of the black nail polish, I decided not to keep it symmetrical so I painted the stripe at different angles and sides of the nails. After all the boxes were complete, I went in with a black striping paint and cleaned up the lines

Day 83 - Mermaid French

I love mermaids and I felt inspired after having a sleepover at my sister in laws house where I watched the little mermaid with my niece. I think the movie must have played all the way through at least three times while I was over. I have all sorts of little sequins and embelleshments in my nail art kit, but it was the opal hexagon glitter that made me do this design. I have always thought they would make good scales and perfect for the tail of a mermail.

for the design I started off by painting a chevron style french in this awesome teal green sparkle polish, while the polish was still wet I pressed the Hexagon Glitters into the polish, slightly overlapping them for a scale like apperance. This was super tideous but definitely worth it, In person they are so glittery, I was quite excited! To make the french look more like the tail of a mermail I painted the lip part where the tail meets the body, I did this in a matching teal color. To finish it off I wanted to add some 3D, the starfish were done using an acrylic mold and pink acrylic. I added the pink dots after to give it more detail

Day 82 - Pisces

Here is another one for my zodiac collection, we are now entering into Pisces. A sign I tend to be quite fond of, I find I really get along with Pisceans.

For these nails, I stuck with the same design idea I had for the previous signs. The nails are painted in this gorgeous blue I ordered from avon. I went with the green and blue color scheme because Pisces is an water sign. I painted the glittery colors over the writing and symbol to add that under water look to it.  As I did in the other designs I painted the sign on the thumb. The zodiac sign Pisces is two fish pointing in opposite directions, I painted these with striping paints. I found the fish a little challenging at first, but overall I'm pretty happy with how this turnds out

Day 81 - Blue and Green Abstract French

I have to admit, I am definitely finding it a bit tricky to blog every day and have it posted for the morning. This was another post done at the very last minute and published at the end of the day.

For this design I knew I wanted to stay on the simpler side but still use a variety of fun colors. I had just picked up this green polish and have been tempted to use it. I painted the green french with really no plan, after that I decided to use the royal blue and white striping paint  just to add more layers to the design. At that point it was looking alot like a canucks french so I had to add some more colors to steer away from that. Believe me I will be posting at least a couple canucks designs come playoffs no need for it now. So sticking with this kinda monochromatic color scheme I incorporated the yellow and turqoise to the design. I think these are really cute, they are not overly chaotic but still super fun.

Day 80 - Fish net nails

This post is not going to be very exciting, just because there is not much to say to describe this design. What started off as just a plain criss cross pattern nail, after adding in the black french ended up to be a fish net stocking design. All the black was done using Orly instant artist paint, the polish is a LED light cured gel polish from Nail Harmony.

Day 79 - Pink Bows and Rhinestones

I was in the mood for some 3D nail deco and had these adorable pink bows in my kit so I thought why not, I am not going to lie 3D nails are a huge pain, they get caught on my clothes, my hair gets stuck on them when I shampoo, but even with the odd cursing and frustration I love 3D nails and will never stop wearing them!

The polish I used for the french is from the magnetix collection, I decided not use the magnet because I liked the color but did not want the design. I underlined the french with black (not the greatest job, I was in a bit of a rush) to give a little extra detail. For the crystals I applied them using nail glue, since they are on the bigger side and I was not using gel I wanted to ensure they didn't fall off. Now for the 3D, usually I would use an acrylic mold and apply while it was still wet so that there was a perfect seal to the nail. These bows were purchased from our local chinese night market and are completely flat on the bottom. I find the trick to wearing these is to apply with regular nail glue, once dry I use clear acrylic to fill in the area below. With just a little clear polish you would never be able to tell and it makes the nail deco a lot more durable.

Day 78 - Crystal tips

These are my nails from my Vegas trip last week, I have been home for a few days but I am posting them now because  I had scheduled all the valentines nails for while I was away. These nails were inspired by my new glittery pumps. I love the glitz and glamour of Vegas and I love dressing up when I'm there, so I of coarse had to have nails to match, and to be completely honest I will use any excuse  to cover my nails in  glitter and crystals. When I was choosing my colors for these nails I started off with a glitter that matched my new shoes, I chose the purple because I find it goes with everything and there is nothing worse than being on vacation and having clashing nails when you are all dressed up.

For the fade I painted the nails in a sparkly gel polish, once cured I pressed the gold glitter all over the nail covering it from top to bottom. Next I painted a second coat of the gel polish, cured it then pressed the purple glitter into the tip fading down. To finish the nails I painted the top gloss and added the swarovski crystals

Day 77 - Blue Shatter Reverse French

This style of nail is can either be called a reverse french or half moon manicure, I have definitely grown to like this manicure style. I usually wear it with a nice dark color and have a metallic as the half moon, but today I went a little brighter. I am one of those people who matches my nails to my outfit, I don't particularly like to be matching but when I am struggling to choose a color it seems to be the easiest decision. So these nails are inspired by my new bright blue blazer, which I wore a soft pink shirt under.

I have mentioned in previous posts that the crackle (or shatter in this case) has not been a huge hit with my clients, When China Glaze released the two lines I of course had to rush out and buy them all. So I wanted to do this design as inspiration, to show that when used in nail art the crackle/shatter is quite pretty. It cracks based on how you paint it on the nails, what i did for this design is paint the shatter polish in a rounded sweeping motion horizontally across the nails in one thicker coat. I like a thicker coat because you get the big cracks, I think the tiny ones look a little weird, but that's my opinion. To fancy them up a bit I used a silver glitter striping paint and defined the area between the plain pink and blue shatter, after that I added pink crystals on the tips of the nails. I really like this design and I usually go very bright that's just my style, this can look really classy when done with a black polish and silver crackle

Day 76 - Sweethearts

I just want to start off by saying Happy Valentines Day Everyone!!! Hope you all get to enjoy some holiday sweets today, I've already started the day off with some pink smarties :) One Valentines day candy I am not particularly fond of is sweethearts. I am not big on the flavor,  I'm more of a cinnamon hearts kinda girl. But even though I don't like to eat them, I do love all the cute messages they put on the conversation hearts and I think it is great that they are always updating them to stay with the times.

I have seen tons of different conversation heart nails and I knew I wanted to do a set as well when I started thinking about my V day designs. I did stray a bit from the official color scheme of the candies. Sweethearts always have red printing on them and that is what all the other designs had, so to be different I went with black so I could outline them and give the candies a little more depth and detail. I painted this design on my acrylics so I did not have to use polish, I thought it would be a waste because I was using so much acrylic paint so all I did was paint a thick even layer of base coat. For the hearts I painted all the outlines first, then was the fun part I had to fill in all the colors. It was like painting in a tiny coloring book. After that I added in the messages using my striping paint. I am super stocked with how these turned out, I think they could be one of my favorites so far.

Day 75- Wild Love

These are my actual Valentines Day nails that I will be wearing out tomorrow night. As you probably know if you read my blog, I love animal print nails!! love it in different color combo options and I just think animal print is sexy. I also find it to be the easiest design to paint on my other hand because the shapes are a random and not perfect. For my design today I decided to go with french, my husband prefers nails and since it is valentines day I'll give in. I think french is kinda boring and I always like to be a little different than the rest so I had to add my own flavor to it. Along one side I painted zebra stripes and on the other side painted black and red leopard spots. I love a little bling so I added two red heart rhinestones to each nail and finished it off with some tiny red sequins.

Day 74 - Cartoon Hearts

For today's nail art I wanted to do a simple cute design in fun colors. For the polish I used a bright robin's egg blue shade. I then painted in the outline of the hearts and dots with a black striping paint, when that dried I filled them in with hot pink paint. To give the hearts a cartoon look I painted shine marks on the side of each heart, after that I used my dotting tool and added in the white dots coming off the hearts. This design is super easy and I like it!

Day 73 - Lingerie Tips

One of the many things I love about Valentines day is the lingerie, personally I am a cozy PJ kinda girl (not sexy at all, I know) But this time of year you see all the sexy lingerie made of silk and lace hanging in the store windows, it just looks so pretty and feminine its hard not to buy it. But for those of you like myself who will probably not be wearing lingerie this V day, why not wear it on your nails!

I have seen lots of different corset or bustier french nails on the Internet but it seems they are always painted as a back view so I wanted to paint it from the front. I painted the nails in a nice shimmery nude and when that dried I painted the general shape of the lingerie using a pink striping paint. After that I painted in the details in black and highlighted everything using a light pink paint. I am really happy with the outcome of these nails, they are just so fun and girlie!

Day 72 - S.W.A.K.

I apologize!! I have just returned from Vegas and I think I left my brain there, lol! I had typed my blog posts in advanced and shceduled them for while I was away but today's post was saved to drafts rather than scheduling it for this morning. I was just typing tomorrow's post and realized there was nothing posted for today :( So here it is with only one hour left in the day...

Today's design is S.W.A.K. (sealed with a kiss) I had planned to paint just lips for my nail art today, but since I have done a lot of designs like that on clients in previous years I wanted to make it a little different. Instead of just painting lips in pinks and reds I went with a love letter theme. I painted the letter on the thumb and lips on the other fingers I did this by painting the pictures in the color first and then outlined and added detail with the striping paint. After that` painted in the lettering, It started of with just the S.W.A.K. and MWAH but the other two fingers looked a little naked so I painted XOXO.

Day 71 - Pepé Le Pew & Penelope Pussycat

For today's design I wanted to paint a cartoon character, I thought about it for quite awhile and when I was thinking of romance and love only one character popped in mind, Pepé Le Pew. He  has always been one of my favorite cartoon characters, I use to love watching Looney Tunes on the weekends as a child and still to this day if I'm flicking through the channels and see it on I have to stop.

In order to paint Pepé Le Pew and Penelope I had too find some pictures on Google images, once I found what I was looking for I started painting. I started off with Pepé Le Pew and it took a few adjustments but I am very happy with how he turned out. Penelope Pussycat was a little trickier, on the black parts her features are drawn in white which I found a bit difficult for some reason. On the remaining three fingers I painted in little Pepé Le Pew quotes, for these I painted all the words in thick black font and when that dried I painted the white inside part to achieve an outlined look. I am super pleased with this design, I love the super sparkly red with the black and white contrast. These nails were a ton of fun to do!

Day 70 - Valentines Plaid

A couple weeks ago I did a plaid french design which I really liked so for today's nail art I wanted to do another plaid but this time painting the entire nail. I started off with one on my favorite pink nail polishes which is actually the color that started my China Glaze obsession. After the polish was dry I painted the light pink lines using a striping brush, I kept each nail slightly different to keep it interesting. The next step was painting in the little dots, for that I used a tooth pick and white acrylic paint. This step was slightly tricky making sure each dot lined up and was the same size. Once all the dots were done I added some little white hearts and outlined them with red to finish it off.

Day 69 - Animal Attraction

I just picked up the new China Glaze Magnetix Collection and I love them!! If you have not seen them or heard of magnetic polish it is a nail polish with positive and negative ions and when you hold the magnet over the wet polish it pulls the color to make a design, the great thing about the CG collection is that the magnet has 3 different designs to choose from. The color I used in this design is my favorite from the collection and the name is Attraction which is perfect for a Valentines design. I was throwing different words around that went with attraction and that is were the design idea came from. I have done a couple different animal prints over the last couple months so I thought to make it different I would paint leopard print hearts in gold and red. The outline of the hearts was done in red and black to give them some definition. I think these turned out great!

Day 68 - Love Birds (Angry Birds)

Here is another Angry Birds Seasons design, I have this client who has wanted AB nails for the longest time so we decided to do it for Valentines Day, I think these turned out really cute!! they are a lot more simple than the christmas design I did, but I really like them.

I knew I wanted to paint the red bird and his girlfriend and I wanted to write Lovebirds on the thumb in the in the AB font but it just didnt fit so I broke it apart into two words. For the other two nails I painted little cartoon hearts

Day 67 - Swirls and Hearts

I did these nails on my cousin last night, It was a natural nail mani on short nails so my canvas was on the smaller side. Personally I love short nails especially when they are all done up with art, I find when you go with super busy art on short nails it looks a lot tamer than it actually is. Where on my nails the art is so much more in your face.

This design started off as a pink and red french, I then took the same red striping paint and painted random shaped swirls coming off the french. After that I painted in the red and white hearts, at this point the design was still really missing something so I went in with my silver striping paint and added some detail to the swirls and french.

Day 66 - Owl love you forever

It seems like everywhere look these days you see owls, not sure where this craze started but it seems to be very popular these days. Either way I am definitely not complaining because I think owls are super cute! I got the inspiration for this design from a valentine's card I saw while searching the internet, the minute I saw it I knew I had to do owl valentines nails. The card was just a picture of an owl similar to the one I painted and underneath it said love you always. For the nails I wanted to do no words and just paint symbols, Im really happy with how they turned out I love the bright cartoon looking symbol against the soft pink nail polish especially with the black outline the nail art really stands out.

Day 65- Fiery Red Heart French

I redid this design a couple tims before I was happy with it, I tried different color combos I even had some sequins on there at one point. But in the end i decided to go with a classic Red Heart. Eventhough this design is on the bigger side, I think it looks classy with the black and red. I love these two colors together and with the silver outline, it just makes it even better. But I just love a nice bold creamy bright color in a high gloss, its like candy.

This design is another easy one, not too much to explain here. I painted the black french tips, after that I painted a large red heart on each nail making sure it touched either side of the nail. I outlined the hearts using a silver striping paint and then went in and painted little shine marks on the hearts. I am really happy with these nails, I may have to wear this one again on Valentines day.

Day 64 - Wearing your Heart on your Nails

I painted this design on my client yesterday and I really like it, the design is clean and simple but also very bold. I love how the white hearts pop against the red and black.

For this design I started by painting a fade using two shades of Gelish gel nail polish, I found that with just two colors it looked more like a french so to help the colors blend I pressed some loose red sparkles into the fade line. For the hearts I painted them in white first and then outlined them with a black striping paint. To finish it off I painted the black dots diagonally up the nails, once dry I painted a smaller white dot on top so it appeared to be outlined as well.

Day 63 - Bee Mine

Today is the first day of february, Yay!! and the first day of valentines designs, I know it's a bit early but the stores have been pushing since Jan 2nd so I'm good. I had been thinking a lot about valentines designs and decided I had to do 14 designs because I had way too many ideas. Valentines day is one of my favorite days, I know it is a bit silly and way out of hand, but I love all the pink, hearts and gushy stuff every where you go!

This design I thought was kinda of cute, I got the inspiration from pinterest. I was randomly browsing the new posts (which I tend to do for hours on hand) and came across a picture of a valentines day card with a bee that said bee mine, it was too cute I had to recreate it. I decided to use a fun blue color for this one, I know its more spring then valentines but the next two weeks will be filled with pink and red so I wanted to ease into the holiday
