Day 244 - Lollipops

For today's post I wanted some bright summer colors, I was also feeling yesterdays rainbows. So I decided to paint some rainbow swirl Lollipops.
I started with a polish that I have not used in ages, china Glaze's Fly. Not sure why its been so long, its actually a pretty sick color! The design is really simple. Using my Instant Artist paints I started with Crisp White painting the entire Lollipop, next I outlined using Jet black. For the rainbow swirls I used Fiery Red, Hot Blue, Hot Green, Sunshine and Orange peel.  To finish it off I painted in some tiny white dots along the smile line

Day 243 - Nyan Cat

I have no idea what Nyan Cat it, I think maybe a game?? But I'm really not sure! A Instagram follower requested it and when I searched it under google I thought it looked super cute. How can you go wrong when rainbows are involved.
For the tip I used blue Years Eve by China Glaze and then pressed loose glitter, pretty much covering up all the nail polish. Next I painted the rainbow for this I used Instant Artist Fiery Red, Orange Peel, Sunshine, Hot Green, Hot Blue and Grape. The cat was a little bit tricky to do as the character is pixelated. The paints used were Pastel Pink, Rose, Jet Black and Crisp white
Even though I am not sure what this character is, I quite enjoy the design!

Day 242 - Garden Gnomes

In the summer I think about gardens and since I already painted the veggies yesterday I decided to go with garden decorations. Who doesn't love a garden gnome!
I started with China Glaze Kinetic Candy as a base, its a great sky blue! The Design was painted mostly with Instant Artist paints, The colors I used were Leafy Green, Hot Green, Fiery Red, Crisp White, Chocolate, Rose, beige and Jet Black. The only other color I used was my bright blue acrylic paint. the Orly shade just didn't work

Day 241 - I love Veggies

Since yesterdays Fruit were so much fun, I decided to stick with a theme and paint some veg. I am a vegetarian so I love all veggies, put some smiley faces on them and how can you resist!
The polish base is Sweet Hook from the Electropop collection, one of my favorites this season! The veggies were painted using Instant Artist Paints Leafy Green, Hot Green, Fiery Red, Sunshine, Rose, Pink Pastel, grape and Jet Black

July 27, 2012

Day 240 - Citrus Slices

This design is really easy! I love the bright fun colors and I love Citrus fruits, so I gigured this would make the perfect summer design.
The base is Electric pineapple, kinda fun that the polish is also fruit themed but thats not why I chose it. I love this neon but muted bright green polish. the fruits were painted using acrylic craft paint. I started with the different sized circles, next I painted a thin white circle inside each one. Using the white paint I setioned off the diffent slices and rounded off the corners. To finish the design I circled each fruit with grey paint, I love these colors with grey!

Day 239 - Green Eggs and Ham

Lately I have been getting tons of requests for the cartoon nails, when a Instagram follower asked for Dr Seuss I knew I had to do my favorite childhood book Green Eggs and Ham.
For the base colors I used China Glaze Custom Kicks and Salsa. The design was painted using Instant artist paints Jet black and Crisp white, they had a better brush for the fine details, The rest was done using acrylic paint. I actually had the perfect shades needed for the design, it worked out great!

July 25, 2012

Day 238 - Minnie and Mickey

Minnie and Mickey was requested to me by a follower (they make my life so much easier) and the second I got the request I jumped to it, i love Disney and especially Minnie and Mikey Mouse!
The Polish I chose was China Glaze Positively in love, I thought the name was super cute for the design and it also worked with the color scheme. The paints used for this design were Orly Instant Artist Jet Black, Crisp White, Fiery Red and Sunshine.
I love this one and it made me very sad to remove it. I may have to redo this for Valentines day next year

July 24, 2012

Day 237 - Disco Dot Fade

Every now and again, I gotta sneak in a easy one just to keep me sane! but as simple as this one is, it is a super fun design to wear out.

I love all the different glitters, glequins and other sparkly embellishments they have now. I am not too sure what these larger round dots are called so I'm going with Disco Dots. They totally remind me of a disco ball so I am sticking with it! lol. For this one I simply painted the nails with China Glaze Liquid Leather and applied the dots, starting heavy at the tip getting more sparse as you go down the nail

They look super cute on the nail but are nearly impossible to photograph :(

Day 236 - Leo

Today is the first day of the Leo zodiac sign, a day I have been waiting for since January when I painted the Capricorn design, and every sign since I have been anticipating today's post . I am a Leo, which does make me a little biased but I believe Leo is definitely with out a doubt the coolest sign. My birthday is the very last day and I am greatful I was able to sneak in there right at the end. Our character is a lion which is pretty awesome, and I love lions so I was really excited to finally get to paint one on my nails.

I must start by saying I wish all the signs were only three letters, it made this design so much easier not having to squish a long word onto my nails. I painted the word Leo in the usual style, color first with a black then white outline, same goes for the symbol just I used a different color. Creating the colors for the lion was definitely the challenging part, I am currently painting a mural at my girlfriends house and left my entire stock of acrylic paints there leaving me with just my collection of Instant Artist paints. After some wasteful blending I was able to mix the perfect shades, the colors I used were Hot Orange, Solid Gold, Chocolate and Beige. And for the word Leo I used 24K Glitter, Jet Black and Crisp White. These nails turned out to be everything I had hoped they would be! If only my cuticles were a little bit happier, I would have no complaints about this one.

Polish: China Glaze Harvest Moon

Day 235 - Mustang

Today is my husband's birthday so I thought I would do a post dedicated to him. When I was thinking of all the possible designs, I knew I had to do my nails to match his Mustang. His car is his pride and joy and I knew he would appreciate this design.

The hardest part of this design was trying to match the blue, his car is the light steel blue color (windveil blue) it is a combo of grey and blue, and there is a definite shimmer to it. To get the color I pretty much got a dappen dish and kept adding colors, in the end I think I used six total. For the design I used a combo of different nail art paints, some Instant Artist, Color Club and Strip Rite paints. I decided to paint the red, white and blue stripes on the pinky separate from the logo because I wanted to write Mustang above the horse and I didn't think the stripes would work. On the pointer finger I panted the black racing stripes like the ones that are on the car (shown below) On the other fingers I attempted to paint the Ford and the GT logos. Both were a little bit tricky, but they turned out close enough. I am pretty happy with the outcome of this design, I think it does represent the car pretty good, I have not shown my husband yet but I'm sure he will love them.

Day 234 - Simple Daisies

I am going to be super honest...I decided this evening I was not going to bother posting because of the state of my nails. Since the long points were not going to work for the designs I have planned over the next few days I picked off my nails. Yes I admit it, I am a nail tech who has a major picking problem. For all my clients out there reading this...do as I say, not as I do!! It's a horrible habit and believe me it is so not worth it, my nails are short, crazy painful and really ugly right now, not something you want! So with that said I decided that there was no way I could do a design for tonight. However I woke up around midnight unable to sleep and I felt guilty so I slapped on some tips and decided go with a pretty basic design.

This one is one of my classics, still to this day very popular but I've been doing it since the start. I knew I wanted to do this design on a dark color, when I was shuffling through my polish box I came across a unused purple which I picked up a couple weeks ago, It was Let's Groove. This one was definitely a hidden gem in my opinion, Stella from the same collection has been one of my favorites, but I have truly been missing out all these years. It is a perfect shade of purple with a fabulous shimmer of purple, blue and red. The picture really does it no justice. The flowers were painted using my smallest dotting tool, I painted them first in white, two per nail. Next I painted a tiny purple dot on the base of each petal using acrylic craft paint. Then using Instant Artist Platinum I added in the little silver dots swirling around the flowers. This one is very easy but I'm glad I did it, now I won't have to hide my nails all day tomorrow.

Polish: China Glaze Let's Groove

Day 233 - Olympic Flame

Since the Olympic flame arrived in London today, I thought it would be a good time to post my first Olympics themed design.

I started with my newest polish from the Safari Collection, it is a fabulous champagne gold glitter polish which I just love! and I am sure you will be seeing it again on a couple more designs.  I knew going in I was painting the flame, since it worked so perfectly with the pointy nails I decided to paint Big Ben as well. Next I painted the flag on the pinkie nail. I was then left with the middle finger and thumb where I painted the 2012 logo and the Olympic rings with London under it. The paint used for this one are Orly Instant Artist Fiery Red, Jet Black, Solid Gold and Crisp White. On the rings I also used a couple of acrylic paints.

I am pretty happy with how these turned out, they are not a favorite of mine but I think they work for the theme.

Polish: China Glaze I'm Not Lion

Day 232 - Dark Knight Rises

Who's pumped for the release of Dark Knight Rises?? I know I am! I cannot wait to go see this movie,  and of course I jumped on the opportunity to do a Batman themed design in time for tonight's release. I went based on two of the posters for the movie, I have attached them to the bottom of the post.

For this design I went with a steel blue polish from the Magnetix collection, but I kept it solid and did not use the magnet. Next I painted in some buildings in silver as background over the nails. The three fingers were easy, I painted a bunch of different size bats covering the nails. On the ring finger I painted Batman with the bat light in the background. finally for the thumb I gave the nail a coat of black polish and painted the logo.

These nails were way too much fun! And I love that this design is on pointed nails, I think it makes them that much better! The Spider Man Nails were one of my favorites but I think this one definitely bumped them down a spot.

Polish: China Glaze Draw Me Close and Liquid Leather

Day 231 - lightning Bolts

For today's post I wanted to go with a design that was simple, bright and fun. I'm not too sure why, but I had it in my head I wanted lightning bolts. It could have been because of the crazy lightning we had on the weekend, but who knows? I can't explain half of the ideas that pop into my head

I started withe the base color, which is the pink tone on the bottom left of lightning bolts. Next I painted the lightning bolts in black, while these dried I filled in the top corner with Instant Artist Grape. For the final step I outlined each Lightning bolt  with Platinum and added in some black crystals at the top of each one. All the colors used for the design are Orly Instant Atist paints

The above picture is taken the usual way with my iphone, but I found that no matter what I did the bright polish was not showing up good. So I decided to add a filter to match it as good as I could (shown in second photo)

Polish: Purple Panic

Day 230 - On Pointe

I am absolutely loving my pointed nails and I was stuck for an idea all day of what to paint on them. I kept thinking what could I paint on a point, after saying this several times in my head it hit me, instead of on a point...on pointe! I had a request for ballet nails a while ago and I have been putting it off, so today I thought two pairs of ballet slippers on pointe would work perfectly.

These were really, really easy to do! All I did was paint the slippers using Pink Pastel Instant Artist, then I filled in the areas for the feet in Beige and finished it by outlining everything using Jet Black. I think these turned out great, unfortunately I think I may have to ditch the pointed nails though. I'm hoping to keep them for the rest of the week, but it's very difficult coming up with designs to paint on them. I promise you though, they will return!!  I love them too much to give them up forever.

Day 229 - My Dogs

Today's design was inspired by a little side business I did a while ago, people used to give me pictures of their dog and I would paint Christmas ornaments with a festive cartoon version of the dog on it. At Christmas time I came across one of the ornaments and since then I have had this design on my to do list.

This design is definitely one of my favorites, I love my dogs and I love having them on my nails! I did find It a little bit tricky matching the colors of the dogs especially Angel who is a reddish tone, but in the end I think I got it right. I used a couple acrylic paints and blended them to make a variety of different colors, that way I had different shades to add in some minor details. For the bones and hearts I used Instant Artist Beige and Rose (also used for the names) then to finish it off I outlined everything using Jet black.

Not very often do I get to wear a design completely personalized for me, so this was really exciting! It makes me sad I only get to wear them for 1 day

Polish: China Glaze Sky High Tops

Day 228 - National Ice Cream Day

These were my nails for National Ice Cream Day, I did paint another ice cream design earlier in the month but did not realize there was a specific day dedicated to ice cream at the time. I had a nail brake on me, and I really enjoyed the pointed nails from Friday so I decided to remove my acrylics and start fresh.

This design was really easy and I absolutely love it! I started by painting the nails with a solid white polish. Next I painted in the ice cream comes. This entire design was done using Instant Artist paints, the colors I used are: Solid Gold, Chocolate,  Pink Pastel, Sky Blue, Beige and Jet Black. For the minty green cone I mixed the beige with a little bit of Sky Blue and Hot Green. These nails are too much fun! I think the pointed nail worked out perfectly, and I love the combo of the edgy point and the super girly pastel ice cream cones.

Day 227 - Coach

I had some major computer issues over the weekend and was unable to type my blog posts, but I did continue to paint my nails every day, so tonight I am posting three days worth of nails...I warn you in advance I'm going keep the posts pretty short

I received a request for Coach nails from one of my followers (which surprisingly I did not think of myself) and I was really excited to give them a try, so I got on it right away. This design is a combo of the two styles of the Coach C's. The paints I used for this are: Orly Instant Artist Jet Black, Platinum and Crisp White. I think they turned out pretty good, I'm not overly excited about how the C's in the classic pattern turned out, but other than that I had fun painting these. Thanks anonymous follower for the great idea!

Day 226 - Tiger Claws

Today's post was inspired by my best friend. A while back I did a post and dedicated it to one of my girlfriends (day 160 - black bird fly) and since then I have been meaning to dedicate posts to my other girlfriends just to be fare. The friend I had in mind while doing today's design loves animal prints, especially tiger. Since I have painted a few animal print designs already I decided to do something completely different.

I did this post on my left hand as usual, but after completing the design I realized that it would look even better on pointed nails, so I quickly slapped on some tips on my right hand and did it all over again. This design was done using printed foil, it's been around forever but I just discovered it and it's my newest obsession. the technique I use to apply the foil to the nail is without any foil adhesive, instead I wiped the back of the foil strip with acetone and then pressed it into nail polish. It was a little tricky applying the tiger print because the lines were getting broken up, it would have been much easier with a leopard print. When the foil was all applied I was left with a rough edge around the nail so I decided to outline the nail using a gold glitter. I think the final outcome looks pretty sick, this design is a little bit crazy for my friend but I'm sure she sill enjoy it.

Day 225 - Rolling Stones

Since the Rolling Stones are celebrating 50 years of music, I thought a Stones theme would make a great design for today's post.

This one is really basic and super easy to explain. I started with a charcoal-black polish, yesterday I had used a high gloss black so today I went this awesome matte black from the Hunger Games collection. Over the four fingers I wrote Rolling Stones since 1962, using Orly Instant Artist paints in Fiery Red and Crisp White. Using the same colors I painted the Rolling Stones logo on the thumb, I started with red painting the general shape, next I filled in the mouth with black and finished it with the white detail. I know this post is not overly exciting but I am pretty happy with how this design turned out.

Day 224 - Magic Mike

After many requests for this design, I finally gave in and did it. It has been suggested to me several times over the last two weeks, so tonight I decided to give it a go. I've seen the movie...twice, lol!!  And I'm not going lie, in my opinion it's not a great movie, but to me Channing Tatum is perfect and he makes it worth every cent. Plus the other guys are bad to look at either!

I painted the nails with a solid black polish, Liquid Leather in fact, lol!! what could be more suiting? Most of the design was painted using acrylic paint, I needed specific colors and my nail art paints just would not cut it, most of the colors were a custom blend. For the bodies I outlined them using Instant Artist Chocolate and highlighted them with beige, the dollar bills were outlined with Stripe Rite Green Grass. For this design I chose to use a darker shade of the color as an outline instead of the black that I usually use because I think the dark lines would have looked too harsh.

At first I had no interest in doing this design but I am so glad I did! These are just way too fun, and I am a little pervy so they really are fitting. Thank you for those of you who request specific designs, it's always appreciated and it definitely saves me on those days when I have no inspiration, keep them coming!! :)

Day 223 - Toms

Today's post is inspired by Toms shoes. I've been thinking of picking up a pair and I was looking at the different color options online. When it came to painting my nails for tonight's post I had shoes on the brain and this was the outcome, it's definitely not one of my masterpieces, but it is kinda fun!

I started by painting all the nails in a blue polish that was closest to the Toms logo. Next I Painted in the toes of the different shoes using acrylic paint. I used acrylic so I could make two colors for each shoe, a color for the base and a slightly darker shade for the stitching. On the ring finger I did a glittery shoe because I think they look pretty awesome, I did this by pressing a large glitter into the paint while it was still wet. In my head this design made sense but looking at it now I'm not too sure. Without the thumb, I would have no idea what was on the other fingers are.

Polish: China Glaze Bahamian Escape

Day 222 - Ladybugs

Today's post was inspired by the color and not so much by choice. I picked up some drugstore polish remover and I had major issues removing the green polish from yesterdays design. Eventually I just gave up and decided to add a coat of shimmery green on top. While applying the green polish, ladybugs pop into my head so I went with it.

I started this design by painting three daisies on each nail, I alternated one on the bottom, two on top and vice versa. Next I painted in the ladybugs, I just did them by painting in round red dots using my largest dotting tool then added the detail in black. Colors I used are Instant Artist Fiery Red, Jet Black, Crisp White and Hot Yellow. The polish color I do not know, it's a random from my polish drawer and it has no label.

Day 221 - Wimbledon/Roger Federer

After sleeping the afternoon away yesterday I was awake really early this morning and it was really nice to be up and watch the Wimbledon final live with my husband. He is a huge Roger Federer fan and since this was such a big match I decided to do a design in his honor.

I started with a tennis court colored green polish on four of the five fingers, the ring finger was painted white because all the players wear white for Wimbledon. Next using a variety of nail art and acrylic craft paints, I painted the design. On the thumb I painted the logo for Wimbledon, this was definitely the hardest because of the writing. On the index finger I painted a simple tennis court, the swiss flag on the middle finger is because Federer is from Switzerland. On the white nail I painted the RF, this is Roger Federer's personal logo that he had on all his gear. Finally the pinky I painted a pattern that looked like strings of a tennis racquet and then l added in the ball to finish it off. I always love doing a specific theme and had tons of fun painting this one, but the best part is that in the end he won the match so it turned out to be a pretty exciting morning!

Polish: China Glaze Gaga For Green

Day 220 - Geckos

I started off with good intentions of posting early, but this afternoon I decided to go for a super long bike ride and enjoy the lovely weather. Next thing I know I was passed out in bed for the entire evening. Luckily I do not have to do my nails in the middle if the night because I painted a fun design on one of my clients this morning. She wanted blue and green geckos on a bright polish.

I started with this super fun bright orange base, then using Fiery Red, Hot Green, Hot Blue and Hot Orange Instant Artist paints I painted squared swirls over each nail. Next I painted  the geckos using So Easy Stripe Rite paints in Midnight Blue and Green Grass. I painted them alternating the colors and facing in different directions. To finish these cute little guys, I gave them eyes, some detail on their bodies and black outline. The top coat I used was really shiney so the pictures have a bit of glare but you get the idea.

Polish: China Glaze Papaya Punch

Day 219 - Ice cream

Today's post is inspired by my favorite summer treat...ice cream!!! It's just so yummy and there is noting better than grabbing a cone on a nice sunny day. I will admit that I am not very exciting, 99% of the time I go with vanilla, it's boring but in my opinion super delicious! For the ice cream cones on my nails I went a little more adventurous, I painted a triple scoop of vanilla, strawberry and bubblegum.

For this design I wanted a nice creamy base so I chose this pastel yellow.  For this design I used Orly Instant Artist paints, I started  by painting the little brown triangles for the cones using Chocolate. next I painted the ice cream in Beige, Pastel Pink and Sky Blue. I outlined it all to make it pop against the base color. Finally to fill in the space I added polka-dots with Hot green, Hot Blue and Rose.

Polish: China Glaze Lemon Fizz

Day 218 - Amazing Spider-Man

Today's post is inspired by my brother. Today is his birthday and he is a big fan of the Amazing Spider-Man comic books, he's one of those guys that makes being a nerd super cool, So I wanted to paint something that was a combo of both. When I heard that the movie was coming out this summer and the release date was near his birthday, I just knew he would appreciate this design and I had to do it!  I am sooo happy I did because I love how these turned out! they are definitely on my top 10 favorite designs list.

I started off this design with this metallic steel blue polish, then using a matte black polish I painted in buildings over the four fingers. To give them some detail I outlined them in black and painted in some windows. These buildings pretty much got covered up by everything else but you can see them faintly in the background. For the rest of the design I painted it using Jet Black, Platinum and Fiery Red Instant Artist Paints. Spider-Man was painted first in red then outlined and detail was painted in black the I finished him by filling in the eyes and adding some silver highlight over the web print. I was very shocked that this design turned out as good as it did, I was very nervous painting this and I am beyond pleased with the final outcome and as predicted my brother thought they were awesome so I am happy!

Day 217 - Star Spangled Nails

Happy fourth of July to our neighbors to the south!!! Hope you all had a wonderful day of festivities! For todays post I wanted to paint a version of the American flag, in my opinion it's one of the coolest flags, plus I had these stars which I have never used so I thought this would be the perfect oportunity.

This was very easy to do! I started with a white base and applied a coat of pearl over top. Then using my Fiery Red Instant Artist paint I painted vertical stripes over the nails. I free handed the stripes because I didn't want to wait for them to dry but you could definitely use tape for crisper lines. Next I painted a diagonal blue tip and added the silver stars and my design was complete! I think these turned out pretty good, even as a canadian I think I would wear these.

Day 216 - Independence Day Abstract

Today's post is for my american followers, For Canada Day I did two posts so I thought I would be fair and do the same for 4th of July. For this design I went with something easier, I had a nail fatality today and had to paint this using my opposite hand.

I want to start by saying the blue I used is definitely my new favorite blue. I picked it up by accident when I was replacing my Splish Splash and it turned out to be a really pleasant surprise. Even though it is a darker shade it is still bright enough to be considered neon and best of all its packed with glitter, what more could I want? The design as mentioned before was painted using my left hand so I kept it pretty simple. I used three shades of Instant Artist paints,  Fiery Red, Crisp White and Platinum Glitter to paint random lines, some curved, some straight going in different directions. To add a little more glitz I went in with my tiny red sequins and added in a final line. The hardest part about this design was taking the picture, when I tried to pose my right hand in the usual position it kept going a little gimpy.

Day 215 - Lisa Frank

Today I was in a bright kinda mood, again I woke up to a grey and very wet day, so I decided to go full on neon and fun to make up for the crumby weather. While wasting some time on Pinterest I came across a picture of a Lisa Frank design and it made me think of my childhood. When I was a little kid I just loved picking out my new Lisa Frank folder and pencil sets for the new school year, her bright prints were always so cool.

I've posted the picture that inspired me below so you can see what I was trying to do. The background for this design was super fun. I started with an assortment of bright colors and applied them in a stippling method, overlapping them and kinda blending them together as I went. Next I chose a striping paint that was a couple shades darker to go with each polish color, with the nail art paints I added in little zig zag lines on top of the overlapped edges. I painted the lips that matched the picture on the ring and thumb, on the other three fingers I wasnt sure what to do so I just googled Lisa Frank and noticed that the rainbow hearts are in lots of the designs. The hearts did not turn out great in my opinion but I kept messing with them and finally decided that I was better off just leaving them. But other than that this design was definitely the fun I needed, plus it was a total blast from the past so I enjoyed doing it.

Day 214 - Canada Day #2

Happy Canada Day everyone!! (well at least the canadian followers) Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! I'm super happy that the sun pulled through, but other than that I did not have a great canada day. Euro cup is big at my house and with a upsetting finish for the Italians kinda put a damper on my day.

This design is one I painted on one of my clients, she kinda had the idea of what she wanted going in, which made it pretty easy. The entire design was painted with Instant Artist paints, the colors I used are: Jet black, Crisp White, Chocolate, Fiery Red and Beige. The base worked out great with the design, usually I would have gone with a dark red but istead I found this polish that was black with a red glitter mixed in.
